My wife and I recently moved down here from Washington, and miss being able to drive an hour in any direction and be out in the woods with nobody around for miles. We’re looking for an area where we can just go and set up our tent, let the dogs run, do some target practice with our guns, and be alone. So far all we’ve experienced is campgrounds where we have to worry about the big RVs "camping" in the spots on either sides of us.

I hate living in one place and I always wanted to travel. I am thinking about getting a RV or van or something to travel in. I will have 2+ people with me and will travel for a long time. I know Myrtle Beach, NC/SC is really busy in the summer so I know that is one place I will stay for a few months. I would like to know about how much it cost in gas to travel in an RV like class C ones or the converted vans. Also places you can stay in them, sites to see, how much different things will cost us, and so on. I know there are alot of people out there that live in their RVs and travel and I would like to hear different things about their expiriences and things. PLEASE help me out in deciding the best things to do.

I am very inexperienced with RVs, so I need lots of help. I am thinking of buying a RV because me and my family love road trips. I think it would be a good way to come together and connect the family. I need something that will sleep 5-8 people comfortably. Here are some questions:

1) Have you had good experience with a RV? Was it worth owning one?
2) Should I get a trailer(I don’t have a truck, but I could buy one) or mobile RV?
2A) If you said trailer, what kind?
2B) If you said mobile RV, what kind?
3) What is a good budget when looking for a RV?
4) What RVs(year, make, model) would you suggest?
5) What is a good website I can go to for RV sales?

Money is not a issue in my family but I don’t know if it is worth spending so much money on a RV. I was thinking ,000-75-000 budget maybe? Is that a good budget? I’ve been mostly looking at A-class and C-class mobile RVs. Or should I get a truck and a trailer? I don’t know, I think it would be hard to haul a trailer and it wouldn’t be as comfortable as traveling in a RV(while the car is in motion). I’ve been looking at the C-class, but now I’m thinking maybe it has a trashy design? I’m not sure. Are there any stereotypes out there with C-class? A-class is huge, like a bus. Which would be the best for me? I need something that’s practical, can sleep 5-8 comfortably, and easy to drive for a vehicle this size.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank You

We reserved a 26 foot Diesel Class C RV for a vacation in September from a RV Sales/Rental company. We reserved this is February, I went on their website today and they no longer have that Diesel RV available. They have a 22 foot Class C Diesel but it is small and does not have a full bed in it, it only has a bunk bed and a sofa sleeper, it would be too small for our family of 5. They have a 38 foot Class A RV that is a Diesel that has the full bed and would accommodate our family. The price of our rental is 0 more than the price of the 22 foot and 0 less than the 38 foot. Which do you think they will substitute? Diesel RV rental was at a higher rate and deposit than the non-diesel RVs, they do have a 26 foot RV available but it is not a Diesel engine. Here are the terms of the rental contract for availability:

"If for any reason beyond our control the reserved vehicle is not available at pick-up, we will substitute a vehicle of equivalent value or higher rated vehicle at no additional cost. We make no guarantee that a specific model year will be available at the time of contract. If a lower rated vehicle is offered and accepted, our responsibility is limited to refund the difference between the vehicles."

I called the RV company about it and they said someone would call me back next week to discuss the issue. I am curious what others think they will do. I do not feel we should have to take the smaller RV due to the fact that we reserved the larger one with a full bed for the extra room for our family, we also reserved a Diesel because it gets far better gas mileage! Opinions, please?
