Are there any good campgrounds in eastern New York or Mass?

Posted: August 25th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Camp Sites | Tags: , , , , , , | 1 Comment »

We’re looking to go somewhere new. We don’t like the campgrounds with the emenities like the bands on Fri nights and the arcade rooms. We like to rough it more. We like big wooden sites that are big and not on top of eachother. We need water but not electric. We like to have water nearby, either river for rafting or a lake for fishing or swimming. Does anyone know of any woodsy private campgrounds? If you could give me a link or some way to get some info on it I would appreciate it. Thanks.
Yes, I’ve been to Burlingame Park. That is the type of park we are looking.
I forgot to mention that we wanted showers.

How To Pick A Fishing Kayak

Posted: August 21st, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Outdoor Activity | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

Are you a paddler that also loves to fish? If that’s the case, you might want to look at joining both of these hobbies by buying a kayak that you could likewise fish out of effortlessly. One illustration of a good angling kayak would be your preferred Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140 as it absolutely fits the bill with regards to angling with ease and comfort. In this post, we will look at some of the elements that you should be looking at as you get ready to make the decision to buy a kayak that will be suitable for angling.

There are numerous explanations why you could prefer to fish from a kayak or canoe as opposed to a motor-driven boat. A few remote locations could be fantastic with regard to fishing yet hard to access on foot to fish from the bank or side of the water. Angling from some form of paddle fishing boat may also be fantastic exercise when it’s in motion and intensely comforting when you are still in the water.

There are numerous different types of kayaks as you will come to learn when you begin your own initial research. These types of various designs include blow up kayaks, whitewater kayaks, sea kayaks, surf kayaks, sit-inside and sit-on-top kayaks. Of these the latter 2 are really the only reasonable options for any kind of significant form of fishing.

Essentially the most optimal style of kayak with regard to angling would be the sit-on-top style and this is actually the category that the before stated Wilderness Tarpon 140 does additionally belong to. One of the main explanations why this is the best fit pertaining to fishing involves the simplicity getting in and out of this type of kayak. Additionally it is a bit easier to maneuver and stretch your lower limbs ın comparison to the sit-inside kayaks.

Sit-on-top kayaks also offer a lot more storage and availability advantage since all of your current angling gear could basically be stored within arm’s length. A sit-inside kayak offers a lot in the way of storage space as well, however with this type of kayak you would need to go below the deck into the hatch to retrieve any kind of equipment that you’ve got tucked away. While confronting a big catch and the need to quickly find your angling net, this would be below optimum for your knowledge.

Sit-on-top kayaks also offer more for the fisherman in that it is possible to get out of the kayak very easily if you want to wade in the water while angling or extend your lower limbs somewhat soon after relaxing in the vessel for long periods of time. This type of kayak will even enable the option of sitting side-saddle from inside that is another way to have the ability to stretch out your legs a bit. With regards to our Tarpon 140 recommendation, this particular impressive kayak layout really enables an individual the ability to stand up inside it because of the smooth flooring. This can be incredibly effective in terms of your casting approach.

Whatever the particular kayak that you decide on regarding your own angling adventures, do take some time to research on the internet prior to making a final determination. Whenever feasible, try to go somewhere that you can hire or ride the kayak that you’re leaning towards so that you can have a real hands on knowledge before making your own ultimate purchase.

How to store food for backwoods camping?

Posted: July 12th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Camping Recipes | Tags: , , , , , | 5 Comments »

Me and some friends are going back woods camping in Algonquin Park for about 4 days. I want to know how we can store meat like steaks and fish fillets. We aren’t going to be hunting (maybe a bit of fishing), and will be hiking about 20km (12 miles) everyday.

How can we have meat to eat, without having to depend on canned foods and dried out meats?

Thanks.
