Since spending some time camping out under the start with just a cardboard box and my sleeping bag I soon realised that staying warm was the top priority and something that will make for an enjoyable camping trip. Once the sun goes down it can be very hard to keep your warmth up and this is something that will obviously effect how you sleep when camping.
To start with a tent is one of the best things you can take with you. Even in moderate climates wind can cause you to get very cold very quickly. The wind takes any warmth generated from your body away instantly. The benefit of a tent is that along with stopping the wind it also traps air which then becomes heated by your body. Additionally putting together a small fire with plenty of firewood to burn through the night will give you the warmth that you need. Also as we have previously mentioned you cannot go camping without a sleeping bag.
One concern is often that you will not be able to fit all of this equipment into your rucksacks. However there have been great advances in the world of outdoor gear and items can now be made from stronger, lighter and thinner materials. Nowadays many of these sleeping bags and tents will find into a normal sized rucksack fairly easily. In the case of sleeping bags goose down bags are the best as they are very warm whist also taking up little room when packed down.
Also remember that one of the easiest ways to get cold and potentially get hypothermia when outdoors is by getting wet. For this reason in areas where there is a risk of rain or the chance of getting wet you will want to look at waterproof trousers that can be used in combination with a good waterproof jacket for the best protection against the rain.
** This is a tip for those who backpack, camp, hike, etc. It’s also a great idea to have these items in a survival kit. The practicality of this tip is due to the steel wool lighting, igniting even when damp or wet. This tip is not meant to replace the traditional lighter or match, but to add a reliable option to a necessity … especially in a dire situation. ** Use CAUTION
Only a quick demonstration of how to make a camp fire using flint & steel when i stayed the night in the woods Bear Grylls/Ray Mears style. Its all in the preperation of the wood you collect. I stacked it in a pyramid with dry thin sticks & fluffed up very very thin tinder in the middle to catch the spark.
Just a quick video to show a few friends how easy it is to prepare an MRE. Meals Ready to eat are great for camping when you just want a quick meal and dont want to light a fire or take out your camping stove to heat up some food. Also at the end there are a few random camping tips.
