Essential Camping Tips Every Camper Should Know

Posted: February 9th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Outdoor Activity | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

In the event that you still do not fully understand how to camp, let’s consider some suggestions for beginner campers to make their camping vacation more enjoyable

Would you like to grill on your backpacking getaway, but lack a barbeque grill? Here are a few thoughts for improvised grills you could make quickly.

A smooth stone can work as a useful barbecue grill for making burgers, or frying bacon and eggs. Find a stone which has not been in water not too long ago. Moreover, avoid limestone and shale rocks that might maintain moisture. Water in such rocks can easily expand swiftly allowing the stone to explode. Clean a stone and wrap it by using aluminum foil.

Warm the stone little by little over coals, turning it often. In case one side of the stone warms up faster compared to other, the stone might fracture or break up. Once the stone is thoroughly warmed, put it on coals and brush off filth and ashes. Eliminate aluminum foil and make food directly on the stone. In case you are preparing a steak, chop or other food that will require longer preparing, turn the stone or heat up yet another stone.

This is how to create an improvised fitting room when camping out. Hang an umbrella upside-down from a tree branch of proper height. In case your umbrella doesn’t have a curled handle to hang over the branch, secure the handle to the tree by using a some string. Attach bathtub drapes to the umbrella by slipping holes on top of the curtains onto the protruding ends of umbrella ribs. Overlap couple of openings to make a doorway.

A thoroughly clean vinyl bleach bottle with an airtight top is really a fine hand wash. Poke a tiny nail opening close to the bottom side of the side opposite the handle. Connect a length of string or wire to the handle of the bottle. Fill the bottle with water and substitute the top of the bottle. Utilize the string to suspend the hand wash from a handy tree branch. To use the hand wash, loosen the top of the bottle. A tiny stream of water will dribble out through the gap, useful for cleaning arms.

How do you defend your camp site or outdoor picnic from uninvited pest guests? Check out these strategies to make your outdoor eating more delightful.

You can keep flies and wasps along with insect pests off your meal by using a lid that is simple to replace, yet enables you to show your food. Stretch a length of clear plastic food wrap, just as you will stretch cloth, in an embroidery hoop large enough to fit your serving bowl.

When you find yourself preparing food, insects are exceptionally unwelcome. Put an electric fan on picnic table and set food in front of it.

Considering that colored lights, in particular yellow, don’t draw in soaring bugs as bright lights do, you might like to light your outdoor picnic or gathering with strings of Christmas tree lights.

It is crucial to add here that beginner campers need to refrain from camping in the rain because things get more problematic and there can be countless other things you should deal with and prepare beforehand.

Looking for a remote place to camp (not a campground) in El Dorado Wilderness, California.?

Posted: November 12th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Camp Sites | Tags: , , , , , | 1 Comment »

I just want a place where I will not see any other people and has a creek, river, or small lake. Accessible by a 2wd Jeep Liberty ideal, or via a short hike (less than 2 miles). I want to fish and have a campfire. I am a very considerate camper and do not litter or destroy the environment. Any secret spots out there? I won’t tell anyone, I promise. :-)

1980 Dodge Class C Converter Issues?

Posted: November 7th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: RV Camping | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | 1 Comment »

I have a 1980 Dodge Country Camper Class C motorhome and I believe the converter is out on it. The frig, and lights work on the battery but not when we plug the RV in to the elec. at campsites. They run fine til the battery runs dead. The electrical outlets don’t work on the battery or the elec at the campground. We think the converter is bad but I have no idea where to find the converter or what it looks like. Anyone know? Thanks
frig is 3-way. frig works great off the battery, but the generator is not working so it runs the battery down. We have fuses & breakers in the breaker box. We replaced the fuse that runs the frig & that didn’t help. There are 4 breakers & 6 fuses. The breakers are on. Could the big black cord be bad? It is frayed. When we plug it in,nothing happens. Is there a way with an electrical meter to check if the breakers are working? We filled the propane & couldn’t get anything in the RV that runs on propane to go on & then all the propane came rushing back out the valve you fill at so we have to get a new fill valve. We will do that & try again. We only have 1 propane tank. I couldn’t smell any leaks inside the RV so I don’t know why the propane wasn’t working in the stove/oven. It only leaked outside the RV. We would like to use the water heater & debated putting in an elec. instant heat for hot water. It’s nice to be able to take a shower in there.
