Snowboarding is usually popular among participants under the age of 30, being a very fast paced sport much like the other 3 sports its created from. It is very easy to that the skateboarding, surfing and skiing have influenced this sport to make it the unique way it is. When the snowboarder comes down the mountain and they carve their board back and forth doing stunts, you are reminded of a surfer hitting some wicked waves. Freestyle snowboarding, on the other hand looks very much like skateboarding, with similar stunts and movement made by the boarders.
Freestyle snowboarding is essentially using man made terrain to shred, kind of like a skate park. The mountain terrain for freestyle has items like jumps, rails, boxes and other objects to freestyle on, added by a designer who is often a rider as well. This means that changes in the terrain like a bluff or ramp, become much like a big wave in surfing. Each unique feature allows a freestyle snowboarder. The snowboarder must use not only his or her skill, but also ingenuity to get on the terrain to gain points against other freestyle snowboarders.
Objects like jumps, rails, and boxes are mainly used to show skills like slides or jibs. Similar to grinding in skateboarding, boxes are long objects that a rider will use to slide the base of their board across it. Boxes work great, because you can make them into make shapes and sizes. Using multiple difficulty levels with test the freestyler’s skill. You can jump or slide across rails because they are long and narrow. A jib is a cool trick that is basically done by sliding across a box, rail, press on a box or other object not made of snow.
