We reserved this is February, I went on their website today and they no longer have that Diesel RV available. They have a 22 foot Class C Diesel but it is small and does not have a full bed in it, it only has a bunk bed and a sofa sleeper, it would be too small for our family of 5. They have a 38 foot Class A RV that is a Diesel that has the full bed and would accommodate our family. The price of our rental is 0 more than the price of the 22 foot and 0 less than the 38 foot. Which do you think they will substitute? Diesel RV rental was at a higher rate and deposit than the non-diesel RVs, they do have a 26 foot RV available but it is not a Diesel engine. Here are the terms of the rental contract for availability:
"If for any reason beyond our control the reserved vehicle is not available at pick-up, we will substitute a vehicle of equivalent value or higher rated vehicle at no additional cost. We make no guarantee that a specific model year will be available at the time of contract. If a lower rated vehicle is offered and accepted, our responsibility is limited to refund the difference between the vehicles."
I called the RV company about it and they said someone would call me back next week to discuss the issue. I am curious what others think they will do. I do not feel we should have to take the smaller RV due to the fact that we reserved the larger one with a full bed for the extra room for our family, we also reserved a Diesel because it gets far better gas mileage! Opinions, please?
Well, the first thing is you stated you already reserved the RV for a specific period. If so then the vehicle should not show as available on their website as it is already committed to you for that specific period of time. So not seeing the vehicle as available on their website does not mean it will not be available. Remember that the website is for people wishing to rent a vehicle and shows what is still available. Any vehicle that is not available because it is reserved should not appear on the site.
If the reservation was processed you should have received a confirmation from the company specifying the type of vehicle and date you are renting it. There is generally a confirmation number attached to your confirmation which can be used to confirm that the vehicle is available. If the vehicle is not available due to mechanical or other complications then they promise to give you an equivalent vehicle or larger according to what you quoted so you would either get the same type or possibly the next class above that. The one thing they do not guarantee is the make and model of the vehicle so you may not receive the exact one you requested. It should however have similar sleeping configurations.
The most likely scenario is the vehicle you booked is the one you will receive. If not then you would get either a similar vehicle or the one above it. You would not be downgraded to the smaller RV.
