Every year $thousands of boating equipment is wrecked by salt corrosion. The salt water boating environment with constant salt laden winds, ocean spray from breaking waves is tough for any gear to combat. Effective salt removal is essential if you want your gear to last as it was hopefully designed to.

Salt is tenacious in its ability to hang on to surfaces, combine this with its hydroscopic nature and it doesn’t matter how much fresh water you throw a it, a residual amount will be left behind to start a salt corrosion problems which will end up corroding what ever gear it has adhered to. So comprehensive salt removal is a must, otherwise your valuable boat, plus if you love fishing,  your high end game fishing reels will fail during the catch of a life-time. Even your terminal tackle will suffer, quietly corroding away, then the is  your expensive marine electronics!.

Much of the salt corrosion goes on without us seeing it, your meticulous cleaning with fresh water often flushes salt into cracks and crevices that are out of sight. Now the salt goes to work, quietly dissolving the surfaces it is in contact with.

So what is the answer to salt removal?

The key to comprehensive salt removal is salt neutralisation; making the salt totally inert and passive and removing the salt crystals that can bind up rigging, winches  and fishing reels. This is best achieved with water soluble salt neutralising solutions, that react with the salt coating the seen and jamming the unseen surfaces, chemically changing it to stop the salt’s corrosive ability.

The most effective  products for doing this is Salt-X SX50 & Buster 50, they are economic and, highly concentrated and neutralize salt immediately. SX50 & Buster 50 have the advantage of being able to work their way into cracks and crevices neutralizing the salt hiding there and arresting the salt corrosion cycle. An additional advantage is the coating that is left once SX50 & Buster 50 have air dried. This gives the treated equipment additional protection and makes salt removal simpler next time round. It also leaves critical lubricants intact, unlike other solvent based products!
