On a personal note, I went camping at the end of March and ended up waking up at 6 in the morning with snow falling around me. It was absolutely freezing but it was a pretty sight to wake up to.
So before you pack your backpacks and pack all of your items, remember to first ask permission of a land owner. If you are really eager to go camping, then I would suggest going in May as the earliest time you can enjoy it as the weather starts to turn a bit more mild.
Other than the early campers, the best choice is to wait until the summer, then you can sandals and shorts and enjoy some basking in the Sun and then if the night gets a bit chilly, then you can have yourself a fire and relax in the still air.
Camping in a hammock is one of the most relaxing and underrated, that’s if you can get over the fact you are really open to the elements, but even so, in the summer, if you are camping with a friend, there really is not much better. So get a friend with you to buy a hammock and go for a night in some local woods once the sun starts to break through and we are hitting summer.
