Malawi is a country in South Central Africa bordering Mozambique to the east, Tanzania to the north and Zambia to the west.  Malawi has long since been known as the ‘Warm Heart of Africa’ but it also has one of Africa’s highest HIV rates. Becoming a volunteer in Africa gives you the opportunity to help these people who are less fortunate than yourself. Malawi is not only one of the friendliest places in Africa but it is also one of the most beautiful. A huge one fifth of the country is covered by Lake Malawi and unsurprisingly this is where most of the tourists visit.

Not only is Lake Malawi the world 8th largest lake but it is also home to the most species of fish anywhere in the world. One of the most famous explorers to set foot in Africa was David Livingstone who was the first European to find Lake Malawi and then he named it Lake Nyasa. Whether you decide to volunteer in Lilongwe or elsewhere in the country you will never be too far away from the Lake.

Malawi is one of the poorest countries in Africa and therefore it comes as no surprise that there are lots of projects for volunteers to get involved with. People are able to coach sports abroad amongst many other things. Malawi is not yet a huge tourist destination so it is very easy for volunteers to be at one with the local cultures and traditions and see Malawi for what it really is.

Malawi is most definitely a treasure of a country still to be discovered by many and now is most certainly the best time to visit before mass tourism begins to get a grip of the country. A lot of the country is still very rural and Lilongwe as the capital has still got a lot of room for development.

Get yourself over to Malawi to take part in one of many volunteering projects. There are a lot to choose from and this maybe the experience you are looking for that will change your life forever.
