For those that want to find out more about the history of Rhodes, go to Scala Kamirou – an ancient village. To see the old monasteries, lush forest and quaint streets, hire a car to explore as much of this beautiful village. Scala Kamirou is a small harbor, where boats leave for Halki and Nisyros islands. Corfu has plenty of historic sites nestled between the golden beaches including the many historic buildings in Paleokastritsa. It has been suggested that this area of Corfu was a possible site of the Homeric city of Scheria, where Odysseus was washed ashore. Be sure to go to the Paleokastritsa monastery, also known as the Theotokos monastery, which dates from the 13th century. This incredible building towers 150 metres obove the sea offering the most breathtaking views. You’ll find plenty of Corfu hotels close to Paleokastritsa, so consider staying here for an unforgettable stay.
