When people travel to new places with new environments sometimes we find it difficult to fit in. When you make a decision that you want to volunteer overseas you can certainly expect to be confronted with a new culture all together. Some of us are very lucky in situations like this as we have extrovert personalities and can socialise with anyone. A lot of people are introverts and do not cope particularly well surrounded by new people in a new environment. Most of this process is psychological and it’s not as hard as you think to mingle with other cultures. If you are doing some volunteering then you will meet lots of new people and below are just a few pointers on what to do and what not to do.
It Take’s Time
It is important when getting yourself into a new situation like this not to have high expectations and also it is important to give yourself adequate time to get used to your new surroundings. Don’t worry if it takes you time to adjust getting used to the new people you have met. If you have an introvert personality it is important to not to shy away from everyone and keep yourself to yourself. Sometimes it’s a good idea just to sit back and watch the other people and assess their personalities to see who you think you would get along with. Once you think you know a bit about the people and their personalities then you can join in the conversations.
Be Approachable
Whether you are a volunteer in Malawi or a volunteer in South Africa you are going to be surrounded by people you don’t know so just be cheerful and people will approach you. It’s something a lot of people normal overlook but actually smiling gets you a long way in life. People will respond a lot better towards you if you have a smile on your face and a bubbly personality. Being happy is actually contagious and before you know it everyone around you will be happy and smiling as well. It really does make the whole volunteer experience a lot more enjoyable.

The iconic Twelve Apostles rock formations are one of the major attractions of the Great Ocean Road Australia. Approximately 230km from Melbourne, in Victoria, these stunning rock stacks are a must-see stop off for anyone embarking on a tour of the Great Ocean Road. The surrounding area also boasts a range of other natural phenomena, including London Bridge and The Grotto. Here’s what to expect during a visit to the region:
The Twelve Apostles
The Twelve Apostles are the central feature of the Port Campbell National Park, located along the Great Ocean Road just to the east of Port Campbell. The Twelve Apostles were created by the erosion of limestone cliffs which first began between ten and twenty million years ago, they rise up to 45 metres out of the Southern Ocean isolated from the shore. For fantastic views, visit during sunrise or sunset and watch the rocks change colour as they move from darkness into light and back again. There are plenty of boardwalks and viewing areas set up by Parks Victoria to ensure that visitors can get spectacular views of these majestic rock stacks whatever the time of the day.
The Bay of Islands and the Bay of Martyrs
Best viewed from the Bay of Martyrs, the limestone towers of the Bay of Islands are an impressive addition to the coastline. Back-lit by the setting sun, the islands and Massacre Point are particularly attractive at sunset.
London Bridge
An intriguing Great Ocean Road rock formation is London Bridge which was previously a natural archway and tunnel. The bridge is now partially complete due to the middle collapsing in 1990. An inspiring way to see this natural wonder is by helicopter flight. Marvel at it from above while on the way to the Bay of Islands, or as part of a scenic flight along the whole of the Shipwreck Coast. The 12 Apostles Helicopters is a good recommendation for an airborne adventure of this nature.

That said, even the grumpiest grown-ups won’t be able to deny the surge of adrenaline prompted by Disneyland Paris’s thrill rides.
Once you’ve got yourself sorted head for the best rides, namely Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Space Mountain Mission 2 and Big Thunder Mountain. Younger kids might prefer the Mad Hatter’s Tea Cups and the Pirates of the Caribbean experience. These attractions are much less demanding, and provide parents with a stress-free alternative. A few Gallic twists to attractions at Walt Disney Studios and Discoveryland’s Les Mystères du Nautilus, a chance to see the mechanical submarine from Jules Verne’s ’20,000 Leagues Under The Sea’, are salient reminders that you are in Paris, not Orlando.
There are three separate areas at Disneyland Paris. You have the Walt Disney Studios Park, where visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at the world of cartoon film-making; the original Magic Kingdom, now Disneyland Park, where most of the main rides can be found and the Disney Village with its various Americana-themed hotels.
One way to ensure you spend less time queuing and more time enjoying the park is by visiting out of season. Since Paris doesn’t benefit from the Floridian climate, late spring and early autumn probably represent the best balance between cold and crowds. However, it is possible to pre-book the most popular rides through the “Fastpass” timeslot scheme. The internet is probably the best for cheap holiday deals to Euro Disney.
Guests are able to stay in one of the five official Disney Hotels or they can opt for a room in one of the seven partner hotels. Choose your hotel depending upon how you want your surroundings to look and feel. They all share an American kitsch theme, ranging from Disney Hotel New York – apparently the Big Apple in microcosm – to the Disney Sequoia Lodge, a faux version of a National Park. For the full experience, the Cinderella-like Disneyland Hotel is ideally located at the park’s entrance.
