thanks for your help in advance!
I’m going camping with my 19 month old later this month and honestly I’m dreading it.
They sell some bracelets you can put on your baby to keep bugs away. It kinda works like a citronella candle… not perfect, but a lot better then spraying poison on a newborn. If you read the bug spray cans they have a lot of scary warnings. Your baby’s throat could close if he licks the mosquito spray off his hands.
Bring a pack and play or some kind of place you can put him down that will contain him. Even if he can’t roll you never know. You want to keep him away from bugs, poison ivy, fire, etc… all the scary stuff he could roll off a blanket and into while outside.
Bring water to make the formula if he is formula fed. Well water tastes funny for a baby. Bring more diapers and wipes and clothes then you could possibly need.
I’d also pack liquid childrens benedryl.. call your doctor for how much to give in case of emergency.. The outdoors is scary with a baby. It takes 1 second for your baby to roll off the blanket and grab something to put in their mouth.
Or maybe I am just paranoid and expressing my unhappiness at a forced camping trip by worrying too much. Who knows.
I see you have camped be for, so you know to check the bug sprey for how much deet is in them. it sounds like you have bug repelent taken care of .you might want to take some toys for him or her and maybe bug netting for at night that is if you are not using a camper.
My son camped almost from birth and never so much as got a bee sting. I would put bells on his shoes and get some light-sticks at the surplus store to tie on his/her clothes for nighttime and have fun. My friend put some change in a pill bottle once and my boy had a nice camp rattle. I used to take him to the boat ramp and he and I would sit in the water. We took care to keep him close to us and away from the fire and all was fine, he still loves to camp.
