The hatchet is nice. And the throwing knives are really handy.

Nice video: I also add a water purification system. You may choose a lightweight Katadyn system ou tablets and iodine wich serves a double purpose with the med kit. A Lexan bottle completes your need for clean water. Aside from the tampon (nice touch!), a non lubricated condom, aside from it regular use, makes a great emergency water jug.

Please add some butterfly closures in your med kit: the best are the ones by 3M and look like strips of scotch tapes; they are the most valuable med supply to have as you can go without a band-aid but can’t afford to bleed out on a bad wound. Aside from my sleeping bag, I add an emergency aluminum blanket but also some aluminum foil: you can easily wrap it to a few branches surrounding your fire to reflet heat. Emergency heat pokets are great too.

A candle: not only for heat or light but melted wax wil seal a hole in a tente or on a shoe. Dehydrated food in an waterproof canister and a few bars are great. Don’t forget toilet paper as you don’t want to wipe with just any leaf…I dubdivide my stuff and keep absolute essentials in a fanny pack.

It’s an ok survival kit, but it has a whole lot of critical weaknesses that will get you killed in a survival situation in the wild. He had no cordage, fishing line, or rope. No duct tape. No fishing hooks. No multi tool. No wire. No surgical tubing. No sutures. No steal wool. No compass. No aspirin. No anti-diaretic pills. No laxative pills. No char cloth. No aluminum foil. No sponge. No thermometer. No sewing needles. No safety pins. No iodine tablets or water purification straws.

No ziplock bags. No cooking tin. No magnifying glass. No large transparent plastic bag. Most of the contents of his kit are made up of depletable items that can’t be replaced in survival situations. He should carry a wool shirt instead of a cotton or sythetic shirt. Wool insulates even when wet. Cotton and sythetic does not, and sythetic is highly flamible. Every item needs to have multiple uses. Most of his do not. I could put more useful things in a 9 inch cooking tin.

i apprieciate the comments! i’d love to comment on your video’s sometime!!

ummm ok what? The video is entitled “survivalist tips and items for camping/hiking and outdoors,” but the kit is poorly suited for that purpose. I’m not trying to be dick or anything. I’m just telling the truth. You’ve got that great big Molle day pack with nothing really useful in it. What are going to light that log with? Your whistle is mighty fancy but the compass won’t give an accurate reading because it sits on top of a battery and the magnifying glass is too small to start a fire.

Instead of a Boy Scout manual, you might try to find a copy of the FM 21-76 US ARMY SURVIVAL MANUAL or the up dated SOCOM Survival Manual. They are much more complete and contain a lot more useful information. I’d purchase the one that’s printed on waterproof paper. The best survival kit will fit in 9 inch cooking pan that you can buy at a dollar store for a buck. And camping wearing polyester is SUPER dangerous if your around a fire. That stuff goes up like gasoline.

Worse still, it becomes seared into your skin. I can’t imagine why a supposed outdoor clothing and equipment company would make clothing out of polyester. Like I said, I’m not telling you this to be a dick. I know all about this stuff. I was a Marine Scout Sniper for 6 years and a survival instructor. Your pack has a lot of unnessesary stuff, and the most essential items are not there.

Survival skills and knowledge isn’t something that you can’t just wing it with. It’s really easy for modern urban people to get themselves killed if stuck out somewhere in the sticks. Look around. There is a lot of good info available on the net. There’s a lot of bad info to. The way you tell the difference is that usually the bad sites want you to buy their bad info or kits.

Why is it that every time I watch a video from this guy, his left arm is always in a sling? How can he possibly be a camper/survivalist/self-reliance/wilderness type with an arm constantly in a sling? Or did he just decide to do a bunch of videos all within a 6 week period while he was wearing a sling? In that case, I’ll simply ask, what was he thinking???

  19. 19 THREEFLOORSDOWN1 said at 8:57 pm on February 7th, 2009:

because my arm is paralyzed!!! you’d be surprised wut a person can do if the put their mind to it!! thx for watchin

THREEFLOORSDOWN, gurumagoo is a #@&*(what he says he isn`t). Keep on, guy! You only learn if you keep on. We all are on a learning curve. Working with your disability don`t make you unable! I applaud your efforts. Alot of these yayhoos are armchair campers.

It looks like eBay has screwed you on receiving the right items. I would suggest a small Hand Sanitizer over Kerosene 1.smell if it leaks 2.great for fires 3.first aid and cleanse Also the shake lights will break when you need them most. Try a LED keychain light like “Inova” (see my vids for review) or extra batteries for your headlight to save on weight. Toss the book and candles. Most things in books are common sense but do type up a small cheat sheet with the good stuff & laminate.
