Hennessy Hammocks are extremely comfortable and give a nice support since they are crafted so you are laying on the bias. They have a bug net and a rain fly, and you enter them from the bottom which gives more stability. Hammock sleeping is so much nicer than ground sleeping.

I think they’re great but I’d like to be up higher. I know it’s a farther fall if it breaks but I don’t need bears fuckin with me in the middle of the night. Take care of it and tie it right, you’ll be fine.

Never thought this was very light weight but it sure seems to be and a real advantage in wet-ground weather. Thanks for showing it.

so do you like the mesh hammocks or the parachute hammocks beter?

  18. 18 alexn159 said at 4:56 pm on January 31st, 2010:

Just got a parachute hammock, cant wait for the warmer weather…

I plan to do a couple of thru hikes leaving my tent behind for the first time…setting my hammock up just like this I will suspend a poncho over top giving myself a pup tent/hammock set up. The whole thing should be very lightweight and take up less space than my tent in my sack.

when looking for a hammock, I started looking at cultures where hammock sleeping is the norm, and ended up getting myself an Amazon hammock and a bug cocoon. It works equally well from trees while out camping and on a stand in my house as my permanent bed.

I use a Hennessey… Tom Hennessey is always showing them at “Trail Days” in Damascus. I like a hammock with a bug net and a rain fly. They are lighter than most tents and when you get ready to sleep all you have to do is find two trees. Flat spots are a little harder to find. There is a learning curve to getting in and out but once you are situated they are comfy. I was after a tent first but couldn’t find the weight at a fair price at the time (3 years ago). Stayed dry in a bad storm…amazing.
