How about a BLT.
Steak hobo Style beans and a fresh Garden Salad!
If you can make it at home you can make it camping. You have a gas grill and an open fire. Make pork chops on the open fire with roasted corn on the cob. On the grill make (Rice-a-roni) to go with the chops.
Get a roll of the heavy aluminium foil and tear off pieces about 18 inches long. One per person or more for big eaters. In this put slices of potato, ground beef, carrots, zucchini, anything you want, a couple pats of butter, salt and pepper to taste. Fold up the foil to form a pouch and set on the grate over the fire. turn to cook through. Tear off end and slide on a plate.
You can also make a pot of everything stew in a dutch oven on the fire.
check out backpacker magazine online, i found out how to make a cake using an orange and tinfoil, also how to make beer pancakes, i cant wait to try them out, im going on a 10 day backpacking trip soon, its best to try this stuff out ahead of time so you get the guess work out in a controlled environment where you have lots of supplies and you dont ruin your only food when your in GODS COUNTRY
Best thing i have ever bought for camping is these pans called hobo pie pans. They are big enough to make sandwiches in them. Great for hot sandwiches or get pizza sauce and toppings and make pizza sandwiches or get pie filling and make individual pies. You just cook them on the hot coals and flip them once or twice. Just need a loaf of bread and before you cook them or even put the bread in spray the inside with pam and you good to go. Great for everyone from kids to adults
Here are a collection of camping recipes you may find useful – http://www.gourmet-living.com/category.html?category=camping
With a grill and a campfire you can cook about anything you would eat at home. Let your imagination go! You can prepare an elaborate meal at home, wrap it in foil and then re-heat it at camp. If you need to you can freeze it and then re-heat later, I’ve done this may times even backpacking.
Hamburgers and mac and cheese. You can easily cook it with what you have (plus burgers taste better than hotdogs).
Steaks. If you buy a really good steak (like New York or Filet Mignon), it’s hard to screw up. If you buy cheap steaks all bets are off. Sprinkle them with McCormick’s Montreal steak seasoning, throw them in a zip lock, and freeze them.
Flavored instant mashed potatoes are extremely easy and fast to make as a side. But if that’s too processed for you, pre-cut some potatoes into small, think chunks and throw them in a zip lock with a bunch of herbs, garlic, and butter cubes. Then, put them on a campfire or grill in a double layer tin foil packet folded in such a way to keep the butter in.
Also, an awesome late night snack is pieces of bratwurst on a stick. Bratwurst is always good, but when you slice them and roast the chunks straight in the flames, it’s incredible.
Another meal idea for car-camping is Shish-ka-bobs. What makes them so convenient is that you can pre-cut all the ingredients and just take them in zip locks (yes, I use a lot of zip locks when car camping). So, keep the chicken chunks in a Teriyaki marinade zip lock, and the onion pieces, bell pepper pieces, mushrooms, or whatever vegetables in another, and bring a can of pineapple chunks. Then just baste the whole works in more Teriyaki sauce as you grill them. These work much better if the fire pit has a grate or just do them on the gas grill.
We like to make what we call tin foil dinners… Take a piece of tin foil (heavy duty is best) put in some baby carrots, diced potatoes, celery chunks, whatever other veggies you like, a hamburger patty (seasoned to taste). Fold up the tin foil around the contents, make sure you have plenty of overlap, and then throw it in the hot coals in the fire and let em cook. When they’re done you just open them up and eat them. They’re amazingly good and easy to make, cook, etc.
Another great one is to buy a pizza before you go, let it get cold, take two slices and place them cheese sides together (crust out), wrap in tin foil. Again, just throw it in the coals and heat it up, enjoy your pizza sandwich.
If you want to get a little more fancy you can try my personal fav… Get a salmon fillet with the skin and scales still on one side. Lay scale side down on a large piece of tin foil, spread plenty of butter on it, add lemon pepper, dill, and some lemon juice. Wrap the whole thing up in the tin foil and then cook. Goes good with a can of beans and/or baked potatoes. I would recommend using a grill for the salmon. This is really easy to prepare at home and makes an awesome first night meal.
Have a great time!
