What should I bring to hike in the French Alps during January?

I am a pretty good hiker and have done many hikes and camping trips in the wilderness in all seasons in the United States. I was planing to to a solo hiking trip for a few days in the French Alps. Anyone suggest any good gear besides from the basic winter camping gear? Any other suggestions would be nice too

    Its NEVER a good idea to go solo.

    Anyhow, bring a BIG parka.
