One of the coolest things that i have seen lately(sorry if you already know about it) is the soto pocket torch. It turns a regular lighter into a windproof flame.

Not particularly new, you may want a Strike Force, $25, matchless match to always be able to raise a spark and make a fire. I am designated firestarter among all my family because I always carry one in every backpack. Now, I keep one in my pocket.

Take a look at the JetBoil if you want fast heat for beverages in winter camping, $100.
A winter down bag can run up to $700, with a 15° down bag being about $250.
Similarly, The North Face makes a good down jacket for $250, but off-brands with lower-quality down can be much less, like Lands End, $150.

You don’t need"cool" stuff, you need "good" stuff that you know how to use. Think multi-purpose on everything—A pair of rain pants is also an extra set of pants to keep you warm, stuff like that. I like Mountain Man’s suggestion of JET BOIL. There are a couple different sizes and they really work well. Put your money into some good basics– backpack, stove, tent, boots.
