Camping In Mexico Is Exciting And Challenging

Most of the things that makes camping in Mexico so exciting is also what makes it such a challenge. This is not an area for greenhorn campers; it is a mysterious and intriguing area, and it is not difficult to find yourself off the beaten track and in the Chihuahuan Desert, not that you will find Chihuahua there, you are much more likely to find Gila Monsters.

It takes a great deal of planning to manage a smooth and incident free trip to this area or even the Sierra Madre Occidental, and it is rarely smooth sailing all the way regardless of how meticulous your planning is. But if you are the adventurous type as many campers appear to be, then camping in Mexico, may just be the ideal trip for you.

If you are prepared for every eventuality, one thing you can be assured of is a vacation that you will enjoy and be able to take home lasting memories of. US vacationers are very spoiled, no matter how they travel, but Mexico does offer some of the most amazing camping opportunities ever.

One thing that is very important for you to prepare for is camping under any conditions. One night you could be located in a dessert arroyo, and the next a snowy pine forest. It is these varied eco systems which make Mexico such and intriguing place to visit. You may even encounter tropical storms in this varied topography and the weather always holds surprised for the unwary camper.
Unpredictable conditions may force you to change plans at the very last minute, so even the most intricately camping trip must allow for flexibility.

Make sure you have a checklist of the most basic camping gear with you. The finer details come later. You can find suitable checklists online. Make sure you shop for what you need before you leave as shopping in unfamiliar Mexican towns won’t see you finding your favorite chocolate bars. Although shopping in these towns is a delightful experience, if you are craving a Hershey bar for energy after pitching your tent, you might be disappointed, and nachos won’t hit the spot.

Make sure you also have a good supply of bottle water. Never drink tap water in Mexico!

Make sure the toiletries you pack are simple, biodegradable and efficient, you might find you have to bathe in river or even puddle water. Personally, I don’t believe it doesn’t hurt to bathe for a couple of days if need be, but you may feel differently. Make sure you take toilet paper along; Mexican newspapers don’t do the trick!

Pack an emergency kit in case of sickness, plan simple meals with non-perishable items, canned goods are great, keep your travel documents safe, learn to speak Spanish and use it, treat the locals with respect and most of all have a good time.
