Sure, and if that doesn’t turn out so well, it could always be the college fund.

If he/she wants to go to the music camp.
Honestly, I’d just start saving for a good college with a good music program. And have him/her practice, practice, practice. Get them all the music books possible. And support, support, support.

I’m a violin teacher and I’ve been to music camp in CA as a kid. It was good exposure to modern/movie music but had really no affect on me in the long run. I would emphasize practice and inspiration. There is no short cut for the violin. Every short cut ends up being a handicap later.

Only if he wants to go, and only if he’s been playing for a while (or at least not just started). Also, if you can’t afford it, just don’t. I’ve been to music camps before. they were fun, but unnecessary.

Oh man I LOVE the violin. I play it but started late I begged my parents for lessons and they wouldn’t do it for 3 years, and I really do have a bit of resentment towards them for that. I really could have been ahead and maybe would have been able to start college with it, but now because of them I can’t. Do it for him if he wants to and you are willing to do it, I am sure it would be an amazing experience. You don’t HAVE to, I mean you are already amazing for letting him do it and even considering this, but it would be fun and he would learn a lot. He is so lucky!
