Is that a good time for fishing..and what would be running then??
Strange answers, huh? I’ll tell you what, if you really don’t know the answer here, you have really got lucky with your timing as "in my opinion", September is the best month of the year for maine fishing. The only problem is that it’s not the greatest month for marine (salt) water fishing, although it totally doesn’t suck either. You are staying in Bar harbor so the bait shops will be pushing their clams & pogies and telling you to just go to the beach and that’s cool and always fun (to me anyways), you may catch a bluefish or a striped bass maybe, but the bigger fish have already started their southbound migration so the action may be slow.
My advice to you would be to head inland to one of the hundreds of lakes and rivers and fish for trout and salmon as this is the migration period for these fish as well but they only migrate out of lakes and into the rivers to spawn and they are both great tasting fish, and I think you will have more luck with these fish, ( speaking from a lot of experience ). There’s just to many variables involved in marine fishing, don’t get me wrong, you may catch the striped bass of a lifetime, but you may also sit there freezing on the beach for four hours with nothing to show for it but a cold. For a sure bet, although it’s a little more expensive, but not much more and WELL worth it, look in the book and hire a Maine guide and tell him you want to catch some trout and salmon, These guys live for this and will not charge you a dime (out of broken pride), if you do not catch your limit for the day. The closest good river to you will be the Kennebeck, although the sheepscott and the Eastern river are a little closer but mybe not so great for a beginner. So sorry this answer is so long but I love Maine and could fill 20 pages with how and where to fish there, but I’ll end it here and wish you both the best of luck , stay safe.
I don’t know. The Maine thing is to have fun. Enjoy!
Good Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in terms of freshwater fishing, the bass are still probably out but saltwater maybe the blues are still running, the mackeral will probably still be running too
