How to travel Europe without Hostels/Hotels/Camping?
Posted: November 30th, 2010 | Author: Mitch | Filed under: Camp Sites | Tags: dirt, europe, host families, hostel, hostels, hotels, london, norther, studying in germany, travelers | 3 Comments »I am studying in Germany for a year. I want to start traveling all of europe, but the problem is the hostels and hotels are so expensive. I don’t want to camp or squat (it’s too cold in norther Europe for that). Is there some kind of program of website that has like "host families" or people that have places where travelers can stay for free, or really dirt cheap (My flight to London is cheaper than the hostel I want to stay in…). Thanks.

Couchsurfing. You stay with a host who basically acts as your tour guide and cultural expert for that area. I’ve yet to hear of anyone having to pay but its always appreciated if you could pay for a meal or contribute something. Overall its pretty much free and you get to be that much closer to the real culture of the area.
You need to be a member to participate in the community but you can read the testimonials and such to see how other people view and use couchsurfing. Hope that helps

You can try couchsurfing.
I have two links for you, but I have seen some more going around.
Both you and your host sign up, will get reviews, and you know beforehand where you will stay.
I have not done it, so I can not recommend it either as good or not.

There are also a few options that you have to pay a little, again I have not used it, I have a link but I know there are more:
