Campground Rate Confusion?

A group of friends and I are planning on going camping this summer somewhere in New England. When reading about the Rates for each campsite, I noticed that nearly all the rates for each campsite was for 2 adults and 2-3 children under 18… with a fee of 8 dollars per additional person.

Together, we are a group of 6 between the ages of 18-20, and I’m curious as to how they will charge us.

Has anyone ever gone camping with friends instead of family? How did they charge you?

They will charge you for the site for 2 people and add $8 for each add’l person.

Some campgrounds you will find it more cost effective to reserve 3 spots for the 6 of you and then to stay in the one spot.

Generally it’s due to a family bringing one vehicle whereas a group of friends will bring multiple vehicles. Could also be a zoning thing.

Check the prices, see if it is more effective for multiple spots (might be cheaper). If nothing else, call the campground (or ranger station for county sites) and ask the question.

If it’s a state or national park, there should be a website posting the rules for maximum occupancy. If it’s a private site, they can probably do whatever they want to enforce. Most places are pretty laid back – if you’re worried, I’d get 2 sites, and put 4 people on each site. If they ask, tell them you’re all cousins or brothers & sisters.
