When I was little, we use to go camping at

    Amicalola Falls State Park
    http://www.gastateparks.org
    240 Amicalola State Park Rd
    Dawsonville, GA 30534-1003
    (706) 265-4703

I know this isn’t SC/NC/TN/KY, but it is north GA.

    You might also check out

    Fall Creek Falls State Park
    2009 Village Camp Rd
    Pikeville, TN 37367 –
    (423) 881-5662
    http://www.tn.gov/environment/parks/FallCreekFalls/ is their website

It is north of Chattanooga and has the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi River. The camping isn’t right at the waterfall, but it has lots of trails, swimming, etc.

    Also look at

    Barton Springs Campgrounds
    158 Barton Springs Road
    Normandy, TN 37360-3128 –
    (931) 857-9222
    http://www.tva.gov/river/recreation/camping.htm is their website

This is operated by the State of TN and TVA. It is on Normandy Lake and has a beach for swimming and a boat launch. The nearby Short Springs State Natural Area has hiking to several waterfalls (bring good hiking shoes). Also nearby are George Dickel Distillery, Jack Daniels Distillery, the Beechcraft Heritage Museum, lots of antiques stores, restaurants, etc. This might be a good place to kayak because of all the backwater fingers on the lake. Just stay close to shore to avoid the fishing boats.

Check out http://www.tennessee.gov/environment/parks/ for a chart of all the state parks and recreation areas.

    Hope this helps. Have fun.

(For some reason the full website address didn’t show up without the extra words at the end. If it still doesn’t show, you can Google the park name and get the link.)

Cumberland Falls in KY might work for you. I believe they have waterfront campgrounds…

We love Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina. Beautiful beach untouched by commercialism, kayak spots on site, natural bike/hike trails. Also try Davidson River Campground in Pisgah Natural Forest outside of Hendersonville, NC. Have fun!!
